Event: Filming and recording day
Role: Production Assistant
Location: Strathfield
I know the words "So crazy" are perhaps overused in these circles a fair bit, but yesterday's filming and recording of RICE Rally Sydney 2020 was in my opinion crazy impressive. Big effort. The production team did a truly amazing job... I'm glad I could be of help just as an assistant this year 🙂 I had been asking for prayer from my guys for things to go smoothly - because with tech, you never know...
What up?
If you don't know, RICE Rally is an evangelistic event run annually for highschoolers. Even though it will look different this year (online over Zoom, rather than at a large venue with thousands of teens), Rally still has the same mission: to bring and preach the gospel to our youth and their friends.
The crew
I am familiar with a couple of the 'crew' (all volunteers mind you), and it was nice to meet some the guys and girls too throughout the day. It was pretty cool to work with these experienced videographers and multitrack audio recording wizards/professional amateurs. Also had a some solid chats about youth ministry stuff too, as many are youth leaders at their own churches. One person shared how much of a joy is has been to be teaching youth gospel truths (making Christ known to them), and the encouragement it is as they digest and understand these truths for themselves.
I suppose to this end I am totally onboard with the core mission of RICE. I know a lot of people have their questions about RICE (and it is important to be thinking about this, I know I have been for myself in the past years).
The dancers are pretty cool haha. Truly thoughtful in their artistry.
Cool words of the day: "Endearing"; "Temperament".
Also someone asked me "Are you married". 🤷♂️
Bringing the production gear
Jem has a LOT of gear. I mean, he has stage truss in his garage(!!). (His dad drove it down). I wish I had a garage space of my own.
On my part, I was responsible for the logistics for some of other gear. Left the house 7am, picked up a friend (lol "What playlist is this?"... thanks for the company hehe, good chats!), and stopped by three different churches to collect sound gear, softboxes, and a lectern (dismantling the metal base plate !!). Thanks dad for letting me use your big car on short notice 🙂
It's a wrap!
Got home 11pm... after dinner ofc! Thanks for the shout :)) Day well spent. Energy levels are a funny thing - this had been an extremely long day, but it was also very refreshing to be working alongside (these) people.
Hoping all goes well during the edits, and looking forward to being part of the stream next Saturday - our youth are doing a watch party.
