Jay & Bec’s Wedding – 19.12.2020

Event: Wedding in-person guests + 200+ on livestream
Role: Production Team
Location: All Saints North Parramatta

This year of livestreaming and tech has been a labour of love during my weekends.

For this wedding (congrats Jay and Bec!) we went for a 2 camera set up, with audio going through our own digital mixer* then into the venue's (ancient) analogue mixer. Audio capture was via my UR22 from the analogue mixer.

*Least to say it was a bit ambitious... given that due to venue access we had under 1 hour to set up in the morning... but we got there...

Perhaps we can start charging for our livestreaming services next year? 🙃 But not until we master all the nuances (see below) as when pay is involve the stakes become a bit higher 😉

On a side note, it was really, really nice to catch up with some Uni / CBS friends. Some good chats and hangs 🙂 🙂

Also I was quite energy drained by Sunday as I got home 1:30am after Friday's end-of-year, end-of-team, youth leader's late night supper oops 😬

Future Improvements

  • Unfortunately I forgot to set the audio delay in OBS. 🙄 (The delay between the people's mouth moving and the sound you hear was noticable). In the future I will definitely need to monitor the final stream from e.g. my phone with headphones, as this can be quite easily adjusted once you realise this is a problem.
    • I had this on my production plan but forgot. May need to print a simpler production plan with less things but keeping the more important stuff prominent.
    • I like to do a post-production edit of all the RAW camera footage and digital sound mixer recordings - and edit out all my mistakes!
    • It is pretty nice that we are able to produce a nice high-quality recording afterwards 🙂
  • Our UniFi AP failed to go online. You just can't rely on the venue's LAN network.

Some post event reflections

In the couple's thanks to us, they were thankful that through our livestreaming tech help, they were able to invite many more (some overseas, some physically unable) to witness their wedding day, vows and hear the good news of the gospel message preached - how cool is that!? 🙂
