I've lately been working at discipline with reading books.

  • Single Ever After: A Biblical Vision for the Significance of Singleness - Dani Treweek

One thing I love about being a Christian is that the gospel gives a lens to life issues, giving things a greater significance and deeper meaning (such as "work", "marriage", etc.). Dani helps us see just that with the issue/s of "singleness". The church is full of single people: not just never-marrieds but also those who have been made single-again. Let us be mindful of how we love single people, regardless of their circumstance, for who they are today. And the Biblical vision also takes us beyond today to our eternal future, where we all will be 'single' in eternity, and yet 'fully known'. So singleness today ought to point us towards this eternal reality.

  • Both/And Ministry: Living and Leading Like Jesus - J. Gary Millar

Appreciate how this book takes us through several ministry topics, and how we ought to be living them out as God's people today, with eternity in mind.
I got this as a eBook freebie from The Good Book Company (worth subscribing/following their pages!). I immediately thought of the "Already/Not Yet" Citizens album too 🙂

  • Lastly, we had a cancer patient join my church bible study group this year. It was only a few weeks prior that I gifted her a copy of The Book of Common Courage: Prayers and Poems to Find Strength in Small Moments, a collection of writings themed around Psalm 23, from my recent book order from The Wandering Bookseller. Turns out, that this was my last interaction with her - she has now passed on from this earthly life. Jane, you fought hard till the end. Thankful that you came to know Jesus, and that you are now in glory with him. Rest in peace and glory, Jane.

  • 21 Facts About Throwing Good Parties posted on Hacker News.
"#20) Let me repeat that: Parties are a public service, you’re doing people a favor by throwing them. Someone might meet their new best friend or future lover at your gathering. In the short term, lovely people may feel less lonely, and that's thanks to you. In the long term, whole new children may ultimately exist in the world because you bothered to throw a party. Throwing parties is stressful for most people, but a great kindness to the community, so genuinely pat yourself on the back for doing this."
